Planning your wedding can feel like a whirlwind of excitement mixed with pressure. Among the many decisions to make, ensuring you look and feel your best is key. One of the most critical elements in this preparation is scheduling a wedding makeup and hair trial. This trial run provides you with a chance to see how your envisioned look comes together, allowing for necessary tweaks before the big day. Let's dive into how you can prepare effectively and get the most out of this important experience!

Setting the Stage Before Your Wedding Trial

Gather Inspiration

• Inspiration Photos: Provide your stylist with inspiration photos that match your vision. Choose images of people with similar features and skin tone to you. For example, if you look like Gigi Hadid, then don't find inspiration pictures from Gal Gadot (and vise versa!) to ensure the look will suit you.

• Tanning: If you plan to get a spray tan for your wedding day, it’s important to have one for your trial as well. Schedule your tan with a professional hand-sprayer 3-5 days before your trial, and after any waxing. This will ensure the makeup is tested on your true skin tone.

• Waxing: Get waxing done 3-7 days before your trial or event. Freshly waxed skin doesn’t hold makeup as well, so it’s best to give it a few days to settle.

• Extensions: Clip-in extensions can add length and volume to your hair, especially if you’re aiming for a full or elaborate style. We recommend real hair extensions, as they can be curled and styled just like your own hair. Many styles on Pinterest and Instagram use extensions, so it’s worth considering if you want your hairstyle to hold better and last longer.

• Allergies: Inform your stylist of any allergies or sensitivities to makeup products in advance so that they can prepare suitable alternatives.

Set Realistic Expectations

While inspiration pictures are helpful, remember that several factors will affect the outcome, including your hair type and face shape. Instead of aiming for an exact replica of a look, focus on finding what enhances your natural beauty. For instance, if you have curly hair, a sleek hairstyle might not translate as expected; instead, opt for defined curls that align with your personal style.

The Night Before & Day of Your Trial

Skin and Makeup Preparation:

• Moisturize and Exfoliate: Apply moisturizer and lip balm before your trial. Although the makeup application will include light exfoliation and appropriate skin preparation, moisturizing the night before ensures your skin is well-prepped and hydrated.

If you can, avoid experimenting with new products right before the trial to prevent unwanted reactions.

• No Makeup: Arrive without any makeup on, including mascara and lipstick, to give your stylist a clean canvas to work on.

Hair Preparation:

• Clean and Dry Hair: Make sure your hair is clean, dry, and free of any heavy products. However, if your hair is fine, thin, or resists curls, applying a volumizing mousse can help.

•Do not use a hair straightener before your trial.

• Natural Texture: If you don’t plan to use your hair’s natural texture, have it blown straight, but avoid using a flat iron. On the other hand, if you have curly hair, consider embracing its natural beauty!

• Curl-Resistant Hair: For hair that struggles to hold curls, simply rough-dry it after washing. Avoid using a paddle brush or pulling it straight, as this could make it more difficult for curls to stay.

What to Wear and Bring

• Top Choice: Wear a button-up or zip-up top to avoid pulling anything over your head and ruining your hair or makeup.

• Color Matters: Try to wear a top in the color of your wedding dress. If you’re wearing a white dress, a white top will give you a better sense of how your makeup will look against your wedding attire.

• Lipstick and Accessories: If you have a specific lipstick you’d like to wear for your wedding, bring it along. Also, bring any hair extensions, accessories, and your veil if you have them, so they can be incorporated into your trial.

Communicate Openly

Honesty is vital during your trial. If something isn’t feeling right, speak up respectfully. Your stylist needs your feedback to make adjustments. A collaborative process is key to achieving the final look you desire.

Document the Outcomes

Take photos from multiple angles and lighting situations during your trial. These images will serve as a reference for your stylist as the wedding day approaches. They also allow you to revisit any adjustments needed without the pressure of time constraints on your special day.

Trying Different Looks

At your trial, we’ll focus on creating the look you’ve envisioned. Minor adjustments can be made based on your feedback during the session. If you wish to try a completely different look after the scheduled time, you’ll need to book another trial, which will be charged at the same rate.

Trial Schedule

• Makeup or Hair Only: 90-120 minutes

• Makeup and Hair: 3 hours

Appointments may take less time

And don’t forget – this is a great excuse for a date night! Let your partner know you’ll be looking fabulous after the trial!!

Reserving Your Wedding Date

Yes, you can reserve your wedding date at the trial! To do so, you’ll need to complete and sign a contract along with a non-refundable deposit of 50% of your wedding day services. This amount will go toward your total.

A soft hold will be placed on your wedding date until the trial, and after that, you’ll have 48 hours to confirm your booking.

Remember to enjoy every moment of this process! You're not only preparing to look beautiful but also to feel confident as you step into this new chapter of your life. With these tips, you are well-equipped to make your wedding trial a resounding success. Embrace the experience, and let your natural beauty shine on your unforgettable day!
